Bovone’s automation benefits: the automated wheel wear recovery process in the Elb 10 and 11/45 models of Bovone’s glass polishing machine

Bovone’s ELB 10 and 11/45 glass polishing machine models are appreciated worldwide for the very high quality of flat edge and 45° inclined edge they are able to generate.

Bovone’s wide range of straight line edgers and bevellers are ambassadors of the company’s technological excellence, which is mainly reflected in:

  • quality and precision of edge grinding and polishing
  • reliability of the machines
  • high productivity

In particular, Bovone’s new range of ELB Fully Automatic straight-line edgers, officially presented to the market at the end of 2021, aims to fill the process automation needs of the international glass industry. Process automation is indispensable today to achieve high levels of productivity and quality of the finished product and thus be able to compete in the different target markets – furniture, construction and others – by constantly providing quality answers in certain times taking advantage of the measurability and traceability of production.

Among straight line glass polishing machine, the ELB 10 FA model stands out for:

  • very high quality of both flat edge and arrises
  • high and continuous processing speed for superior and consistent productivity over time
  • versatility. With the ELB 10, big glass industries have highly productive technology and small workshops, on the other hand, benefit from the superior processing quality for their fine creations
  • possibility to use the machine with or without liquid cerium

The ELB 11/45 performs glass edge grinding, achieving a very high quality of flat edge and 45° inclined edge, thanks to the polishing process, which in this case, compared to the ELB10, does not involve Cerium oxide processing. ELB 11/45 is able to process parts at a high and constant speed, optimizing production.

Over the past two years Bovone’s R&D has focused the technological development of its machines by focusing on a significant increase in the content of automation declined on different technical aspects: the result has led to an innovative technology that allows the operator greater ease of use, automating the adjustment of the grinding wheels to maintain a constant quality of finish throughout the process.

Active wear control of all grinding wheels through an actuation on each motor, controlled by remote control, compensates for height reduction. Powerful software controlled by an intuitive and user-friendly HMI initiates automatic up and down actuation of each spindle. Once the parameters are adjusted, operator intervention will no longer be required to control the process, which will self-adjust to give a consistent quality result, freeing production from operator skill. Machine maintenance also benefits from this innovation: the process of presetting the replaced grinding wheels is handled automatically with a simple command. Once the grinding wheel has been replaced (a signal alerts the operator to the end of the wheel), the machine repositions the motor itself to the correct position.

Bovone’s ELB 10 and 11/45 glass polishing machine models through the automatic grinding wheel wear compensation system, increasing automation in glass grinding processes, ensure high and consistent finish quality as well as high productivity and ease of use.
